Ty Segall (2008) With 12 tracks clocking in at just over 24 minutes, Segall’s first self-titled album, which was shepherded by fellow Bay Area rocker John Dwyer of The Oh Sees, is exactly what it should be: a sonic snapshot of a soon-to-be monster in embryonic form. Ty Segall is a lo-fi jumble of yelps and hiss and choppy guitar chords that show promise, but are clearly still proto-Ty. The songs are, in some cases, bigger and beefier than his previous work, and also more dynamic (opening track Finger, for example, starts with some lazy strumming and cooing before it erupts into a thrashing tear-down). Girlfriend and Imaginary Person are two of his all-time best.
Genre: Psychedelic Rock. Despite a few too many lacklustre and inconsequential tracks, there are some incredible highs here and songs that will sound phenomenal when played live. Perhaps that’s enough.
Ty Segall is the sum of his songs and about getting the free. The free to be! Song Title. Yet another good album from Ty Segall. This one sounds like a true follow up to 2014's "Manipulator" and the "Mr. Face" EP with increasing craftsmanship and a more classic rock sound. The sound of the album also has elements of his sludge-rock side band, Fuzz. With nine songs, it is a bit short, but every song brings something interesting to the table. The ten-minute "Warm Hands" goes into jazz and jam-band territory, but the song does not feel too long or overly indulgent . Songs range from quieter ballad type sound to hard slamming rock. 2 people found this helpful.
