For me this sums up the spirit of the mid sixties

Do You Believe in Magic is the debut album by the folk rock group The Lovin' Spoonful. It was released in November 1965, on the Kama Sutra label. The album features the hits "Do You Believe in Magic" (. No. 9) and "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?" (. 2). Do You Believe in Magic was re-released on CD in 2002 with five bonus tracks.

Do You Believe In Magic" is a song written by John Sebastian. It was first recorded and released by his group, The Lovin' Spoonful in 1965. The single peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1978, Shaun Cassidy reached the top 40 with his cover version. The song has been recorded by various artists. In 1965, the group The Lovin' Spoonful released the song as the first single from their debut studio album Do You Believe in Magic

If you believe in magic, come along with me We'll dance until morning till there's just you and me And maybe, if the music is right I'll meet you tomorrow, sort of late at night And we'll go dancing, baby, then you'll see How the magic's in the music and the music's in me. Yeah Do you believe in magic? Yeah Believe in the magic of the young girl's soul Believe in the magic of-a rock and roll Believe in the magic that can set you free Ohh, talking 'bout the magic.

The Lovin' Spoonful is a pop/rock band that was formed in New York City, New York, United States in 1965. The band consisted of John Sebastian (vocals, autoharp), Zal Yanofsky (guitar), Steve Boone (bass) and Joseph Campbell Butler (drums). Yanofsky left the group in 1967 and was replaced by Jerry Yester, and Sebastian left the group in 1968. The band issued five albums and two film soundtracks before they split in 1969. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Their best known songs include "Summer In The City", "Do You Believe In Magic?&. ead.

The album also revealed the group's jug band roots in its arrangements of traditional songs like "Fishin' Blues" and "Wild About My Lovin'" and revealed that lead guitarist Zal Yanovsky and drummer Joe Butler, while not quite in Sebastian's league, were good singers as well. The Spoonful would be remembered as a vehicle for Sebastian's songwriting, but Do You Believe in Magic was a well-rounded collection that demonstrated their effectiveness as a group.

Released with a special ''Lovin' Spoonful'' inner sleeve. MGM Record Manufacturing Division denoted by block shaped "S" in runout. Matrix, Runout (Runout Side A, etched, ): KLP-8050 SiDE-1 65TR400 A+P S.

The Lovin' Spoonful was among the best bands of the sixties. Not just because of the incredibly prolific John Sebastian (yes he could be overly sugary, but he always made me believe he meant every word, if you listen, you can hear him smiling) but the under appreciated brilliance of Zalman Yanovsky on guitar. Each album comes in a cardboard replica of the original LP. They contain the original tracks from the original album without a lot of bonus material bogging down the flow of the album. This is the way we heard the albums when they came out.

The Lovin' Spoonful played regularly at a famous club called The Night Owl Cafe. Said Sebastian: "We were playing pretty steadily for the local people from Greenwich Village who were part of the jazz scene or part of the kind of downtown 'in crowd. Barry from Lakeland, FlJohn Sebastian played autoharp on "Do You Believe in Magic. It's clearly heard on the single, and I remember seeing him play it when the group performed the song on "American Bandstand. Plus he's playing autoharp on the album cover for "Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful " Rick from San Juan, United StatesI remember John Sebastian strumming a dulcimer while he performed "Do You Believe In Magic" . .
